The CBD craze isn’t about to die down. We have CBD wine, CBD tea, CBD coffee, CBD cake, and now, CBD water. Is CBD water effective?
CBD water, as the name suggests, is water that’s infused with cannabidiol. Considering that CBD is water-insoluble, for CBD and water to get mixed, technology is applied.
The manufacturers have stated that CBD water is an easy method of administering cannabidiol to your body and enjoying its effects.
But it seems that this claim is getting disputed. The argument is that CBD water cannot be as effective as various other CBD products at delivering CBD benefits like anxiety relief .
How CBD Water is Made
If you poured some water into a mug, and then added a spoon of CBD oil to the water, you would notice that the two cannot blend into a solution.
But thanks to nanoemulsion technology, the surface tension of water is minimized, thus making it possible for CBD oil to mix with water.
The CBD content in CBD water is usually in the form of infinitesimal CBD droplets and is designed for easy uptake by the body.
Why CBD Water Isn’t Effective
If you take some CBD tincture, or you inhale some CBD e-juice, the effects soon kick in and you experience various positive effects like relaxation and mental calm.
But the same isn’t necessarily true for CBD water. You would ingest it and still, there would be no positive effects that be forthcoming.
It has been pointed out that the chemical makeup of CBD water can have a limiting effect on CBD absorption, thus denying you positive effects.
And so, if you’re looking to consume CBD to manage your pain or anxiety, it’s not recommended to consume CBD water.
The following are some of the reasons why CBD water may not be effective:
1. Contains Low CBD Levels
The CBD particles are beaten into microscopic droplets, and thus the CBD content in CBD water is extremely low. Potency is a critical thing in achieving CBD effects . But since CBD water contains low levels of CBD, it’s not effective at exerting therapeutic effects.
2. Risk of Light and Air Degradation
CBD water is typically contained in a bottle. And when you keep opening and closing it, air flows inside and it causes the CBD to destabilize. Also, the bottles aren’t dark, which allows the UV rays to hit CBD and cause degradation.
For someone that takes CBD tinctures, the CBD is enclosed in a dark, sturdy, airtight bottle, and this minimizes the chances of CBD degradation. On the other hand, someone that takes CBD water can end up consuming degraded CBD and fail to experience any effects.
3. CBD Water is Expensive
CBD water is sinfully expensive. Granted, the manufacturing costs are high considering the superior technology that is used to combine CBD with water, but still many people fail to see the sense of shelling for CBD water when other numerous alternatives deliver faster and more effective results.
In a sense, CBD water is a reserve for the well-heeled. For the average person that relies on basic CBD products to improve their health, CBD water might seem somewhat unreachable.
4. CBD Water is Ingested Orally
CBD products may be ingested in diverse ways: sublingual, topical, oral, etc. Oral ingestion means that the CBD is swallowed, passes through the gut, and gets metabolized before getting released into the bloodstream.
Now, the metabolism of CBD typically reduces its potency of CBD and also lowers its bioavailability.
When you ingest CBD water, the CBD molecules get metabolized, and far fewer CBD compounds end up in your body, thus minimizing your ability to enjoy any effects.
Types of CBD Water
The following are the types of CBD water:
Full-spectrum CBD water: this is the CBD water that contains all the natural hemp compounds, including cannabinoids like THC and compounds like terpenes and flavonoids.
Broad-spectrum CBD water: this is the CBD water that contains all the natural compounds and cannabinoids of the hemp plant save for THC.
CBD isolates: this is the CBD water that contains a pure form of CBD. The CBD is free of cannabinoids and various other chemical compounds.
Is CBD Water Legal?
If you’re consuming CBD water, you’re not in any way on the wrong side of the law. The extraction and sale of hemp-derived CBD were legalized in 2018.
But even though CBD is legal at the federal level, the FDA requires that CBD products must not contain more than 0.3% THC.
And so, we cannot stress enough the importance of purchasing quality CBD water that’s been lab-tested, and that doesn’t contain prohibited levels of THC.
Can CBD Water Make You High?
The chemical compound that makes you experience a mental high is known as THC. THC is present in marijuana plants at high levels, but it’s present in the hemp plant at low levels.
Hemp-derived CBD will contain minuscule THC levels, so, you wouldn’t experience any psychoactive effects if you consume CBD water.
CBD water typically contains low amounts of cannabinoids, so, it has zero chance of causing you to experience any psychoactive effects.
The Takeaway: The Effectiveness of CBD Water
CD water is made by mixing cannabidiol with water. The technology that helps with successfully combining CBD with water is known as nanoemulsion technology. But then most CBD consumers don’t consider CBD water to be reliable for achieving therapeutic effects because it has low levels of CBD, is susceptible to degradation, and is expensive.
